Meanwhile, China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that the death toll from landslides in the Tibet Autonomous Region had risen to 31, with 531 people still missing. The disasters have therefore claimed at least 1,318 lives in Nepal and China, while 5,614 people remain missing.
According to the United Nations in Nepal, more than 84,000 people are in need of assistance.
The UN and its partners are appealing for nearly 50 million USD to provide cash assistance, food, shelter, clean water, healthcare and other essential support to the worst-affected communities.
The Nepalese Government estimates reconstruction costs could reach billions of dollars.
The UN has urged the international community to provide urgent assistance to meet the immediate needs of people in affected areas and help Nepal recover from the disaster.
