The flash floods and landslides occurred on August 26 after a large mass of ice and rock broke away from the northern slope of Mount Langtang Lirung, sending huge amounts of debris into the valley and triggering widespread flooding and landslides.
According to Nepal’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, as of 8 p.m. September 4, at least 1,287 people had been killed and 5,083 were missing.
