Co-organized by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Theatre Artists Association, the event is part of activities marking Hanoi’s 72nd Liberation Day on October 10.

The festival brings together 15 professional art troupes and armed forces of Hanoi and other provinces and cities, who will perform works of multiple genres, including cheo (traditional Vietnamese opera), cai luong (reformed opera), spoken drama, musicals, circus, puppetry, and tuong (classical Vietnamese opera).

Le Thi Anh Mai, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Chief Organizer of the Festival, said: “Developing culture and the arts means preserving and promoting traditional values while enriching people’s spiritual lives, inspiring creativity, and contributing to making Hanoi a civilized, modern capital with a distinctive cultural identity. Theater plays an important role in this effort. The festival brings together high-quality works and creates opportunities for theater to reach a wider audience.”

The Youth Theatre will perform The Girl in the Grey Beret, a play by the late playwright Luu Quang Vu about people who dare to take risks, live life to the fullest, and pursue their dreams.

Meritorious Artist Nguyen Si Tien, Director of the Youth Theatre, said: “We have thoroughly rehearsed the play, which retells an old story in a new way. Our directors and artists have brought fresh creativity to this famous work, breathing new life into the ideas and messages of Luu Quang Vu.”

All performances are free at Workers’ Theatre, Dai Nam Theatre, Hong Ha Theatre, the Army Theatre, the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace, Ho Guom Opera House, Kim Ma Theatre and the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema.
