The program is held in collaboration with the Hanoi Urban Environment Company Limited (URENCO) and was launched back in September 20. The pilot in Le Thanh Tong residential area will run until December 31, and expand to the rest of Cua Nam ward from mid 2027.
Each household will be provided one bag per day. The bags all have QR codes, which are linked to a waste-sorting guide. Wastes are categorized into 4 groups: recyclable, hazardous, bulky, and other.
The program aims to identify households that produce the most wastes, and have them pay for waste management accordingly, instead of the current flat rate.
URENCO and Cua Nam Ward will also deploy specialized 3-wheeled electric vehicles for collecting sorted wastes.
