The Ministry said it will continue coordinating with WHO and relevant agencies to monitor global developments related to Hantavirus infections.
According to the latest update released by the World Health Organization (WHO) on July 2, the outbreak of Andes hantavirus (ANDV) linked to the cruise ship MV Hondius has been contained and no longer poses a public health risk. WHO expects that no further transmission associated with the outbreak will be reported.
Since May 2, when the outbreak was first reported to WHO, a total of 13 cases were identified, including 12 laboratory-confirmed Andes virus infections and one probable case. Three patients died.
All identified close contacts completed the WHO-recommended 42-day monitoring period without any secondary infections being detected, indicating that the outbreak had been effectively brought under control.
