At the event in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Van Tho, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council and President of the Vietnam–US Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, said the city has been one of the leading localities in promoting Vietnam-US relations.

Ho Chi Minh City and San Francisco established a cooperative relationship in April 1995, marking a milestone in people-to-people diplomacy, turning goodwill into trust and trust into lasting cooperation. Since then, bilateral cooperation has continued to expand. Following Ho Chi Minh City’s administrative expansion, there will be greater opportunities for more substantive and sustainable cooperation programs with US partners, Mr. Tho said.

Melissa A. Brown, US Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said the US Mission to Vietnam has been working to strengthen bilateral relations through initiatives that connect families, students and tourists, enhance public health cooperation, combat transnational crime to ensure the safety of people in both countries, and promote cooperation in trade and agriculture, contributing to both nations’ economic growth and prosperity.
