The large-scale military operation targeted military installations and infrastructure, including fighter jet hangars, radars, runways, ammunition depots, and other targets located at King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, southwestern Saudi Arabia.
The Yemeni government officials and Houthi force said that the group took control over the islands of Greater Hanish and Lesser Hanish in the southern Red Sea.
The move is believed to pose a threat to the vital artery for Saudi oil exports through the Red Sea as the Strait of Hormuz remains closed amid the US-Iran war. Escalating tensions in the region have increased pressure on global oil supplies and prices.
Last week, the Houthi also seized control of the port city of Mokha and Mayun Island, located in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The group has now gained control of areas just 32 kilometers from a US military base in Djibouti, on the opposite side of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
