At a meeting with representatives from 12 Middle Eastern countries, excluding Israel and Iran, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, President Donald Trump said that his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held a “very productive” meeting earlier Tuesday with Iranian counterparts.
Trump said he hopes that the US will reach a deal with Iran to end their ongoing conflict by the upcoming midterm elections, if not before.
In another development, Iran’s parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Commission approved new penalties on Wednesday for vessels violating transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz.
