At his meeting with Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Prime Minister Hung proposed effectively implementing the 2023-2027 Action Program under the Comprehensive Partnership framework, while maintaining high-level exchanges and strengthening economic and trade ties. He also suggested studying the establishment of a joint trade cooperation mechanism and enhancing cooperation in fisheries and maritime sectors.
The Brunei Sultan expressed support for Vietnam’s successful organization of APEC 2027 and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation in trade and energy.
During another meeting with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., PM Hung affirmed Vietnam’s support for the Philippines in successfully fulfilling its role as ASEAN Chair 2026, while strengthening ASEAN's solidarity, unity and centrality central role.
Philippine President Marcos Jr. welcomed PM Hung to the ASEAN Summit for the first time in his capacity as Prime Minister of Vietnam. The two leaders agreed to intensify high-level exchanges, facilitate trade and work toward raising bilateral trade turnover to 10 billion USD. They also stressed strengthening cooperation on food security, energy security, and marine scientific research.
Meeting with Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister Hung congratulated Timor-Leste on attending the ASEAN Summit for the first time as a full member and reaffirmed support for its deeper integration into regional cooperation mechanisms. He also affirmed Vietnam’s willingness to share experience in economic development, building support policies and providing credit assistance for small- and medium-sized enterprises.
Prime Minister Gusmão reiterated his wish to further strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, particularly in trade, investment, telecommunications, education and training.
At another meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, the two leaders described defense and security cooperation as a key pillar of bilateral relations. They also agreed to accelerate work on a new economic cooperation mechanism linking the two economies through 2035 with a vision to 2050, including plans for expressway connectivity linking Ho Chi Minh City, Moc Bai, Bavet and Phnom Penh.
Underscoring the importance of maintaining a peaceful, stable, cooperative and sustainably developed border, the two sides affirmed their commitment to promptly and appropriately address emerging issues, including cooperation in environmental protection along border areas.
Receiving President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Masato Kanda, the Vietnamese Prime Minister emphasized the importance of aid and concessional loans for investment and development in the new phase and welcomed the ADB's early commencement of the National Partnership Strategy for the period 2027-2031.
He called on the ADB to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese Government to enhance cooperation effectiveness, expand flexible and concessional financial instruments, and strengthen technical support and policy advice in building new development models, green transformation, supply chains, climate change response, and supporting the private sector.
For his part, Kanda said that the ADB remains a trusted partner of Vietnam in its new development era, adding that the Country Partnership Strategy for 2027-2031 would closely align with Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategies and plans.
