On Monday Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on X that progress was made on oil exports, frozen Iranian assets, and reconstruction plans for Iran. US Vice President JD Vance said Iran agreed to allow UN nuclear inspectors back into Iran. At a news briefing before he departed Burgenstock for the US, Vance said details of the inspectors’ return will be worked out.

Iran suspended cooperation with the IAEA last June following attacks by Israel and the US. Vance also said that any Iranian assets to be unfrozen will be strictly managed and used only for civilian purposes, such as buying food for the Iranian people.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said, “A very brief discussion took place regarding the nuclear issue, but there was no discussion of details.” Iran hasn’t made any new statement since the US announced that IAEA inspectors would return.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the discussions took place in a positive and constructive atmosphere and yielded encouraging progress, including agreement on a roadmap toward a final deal within 60 days, the establishment of a high-level committee to provide political oversight, and the commencement of further technical talks.

The US Treasury Department issued a 60-day general license on Monday authorizing the production, delivery and sale of Iranian oil, a first step toward implementing the commitments made by Washington and Tehran in their new memorandum of understanding.
