RIA Novosti quoted Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov as saying that Putin positively assessed US mediation efforts and Trump's personal efforts to seek a solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
Ushakov said Putin and Trump discussed the situation on the ground in Ukraine and Moscow's views on prospects for a settlement. Putin said the US could take a number of steps to help bring the conflict to an end, but did not specify the steps.
Ushakov said Moscow viewed positively the meetings with US special envoy Steve Witkoff in the Russian capital over the weekend.
The White House has not commented on the call. The Kremlin said, however, that President Trump reiterated his desire to end the conflict as soon as possible to pave the way for a full restoration of US-Russia trade and economic ties.
