The proposal was raised during a meeting between Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Swiss President Guy Parmelin at the Government headquarters in Hanoi on Saturday, as part of the Swiss President’s official visit to Vietnam.
Welcoming President Parmelin on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Prime Minister Hung said the visit would open a new chapter in bilateral ties, particularly with the signing of the Vietnam–European Free Trade Association (EFTA) Free Trade Agreement.
Appreciating Switzerland’s active role in promoting the agreement, the Vietnamese PM called on both sides to coordinate closely to bring it into force at an early date. He encouraged Swiss businesses and investment funds to expand their presence in Vietnam, particularly in banking and finance, manufacturing, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and innovation.
The Prime Minister also called on Switzerland to share its experience and support Vietnam in developing its international financial centres and connecting them with major global financial hubs.
He proposed stronger cooperation in green finance, investment funds, asset management, crypto-assets, carbon credits, international bonds and financial technology.
President Parmelin said his delegation included a large number of Swiss business representatives and scientists, reflecting strong interest in and high expectations for cooperation with Vietnam.
He proposed connecting Switzerland’s Crypto Valley, a major blockchain and digital asset hub, with Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem, while promoting collaboration in blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology.
