Talking to reporters prior to the trip, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said it is General Secretary and President To Lam’s first visit to the UN, the US, and Canada following the 14th National Party Congress and the elections for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. The trip conveys the message of a Vietnam entering a new era of development, proactively integrating into the international community.
The participation and address by the General Secretary and President at the UN General Assembly—taking place as Vietnam and the UN approach the 50th anniversary of their relationship in 2027—reaffirm Vietnam's commitment to multilateralism, the UN central role, and international law.
Vietnam will also share experiences gained over 40 years of “Doi Moi” (Renewal) and contribute initiatives regarding sustainable development, climate change, and technology governance.
In the United States, the visit aims to foster the stable, substantive, and sustainable development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The State visit to Canada is expected to generate new momentum and boost cooperation in areas such as science and technology, innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, clean energy, and human resource development.
