The attack, the first launched by Iran since the US-Iran ceasefire came into effect on April 8, injured three Indian citizens and caused a major fire at the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone.
Iranian state television said late Monday that the incident at Fujairah port was a consequence of the US military ignoring Iran’s warnings.
Iran’s military had said it would launch attacks if US forces entered the Strait of Hormuz, after President Trump announced that the US Navy would begin escorting ships through the blockaded strait.
Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), said Monday that during an operation to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the US Navy destroyed six Iranian small boats and intercepted Iranian cruise missiles and drones. Iran’s media and military denied the claim.
The Israeli military said Monday that its forces were “on high alert” amid the escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
