The resolution reaffirmed the aims, principles and values of the treaty, which was signed in Bali, Indonesia, on February 24, 1976, in promoting friendship, trust, dialogue and cooperation among nations.
The resolution stressed fundamental principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in others’ internal affairs, the peaceful settlement of disputes, the renunciation of the threat or use of force, and effective cooperation.
The resolution encouraged the parties to continue using the TAC as a channel for promoting dialogue and cooperation and to reaffirm their commitment to the treaty’s purposes and principles. It welcomes the growing interest of countries in acceding to the TAC.
On the 50th anniversary, the UN General Assembly acknowledges the resolution’s contributions to peace, stability and cooperation in Southeast Asia.
