President Xi invited President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to attend the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, this November, noting that the two could meet again a month later at the G20 summit at the Trump National Doral Miami golf club in Florida.
During a tea reception at the White House on Friday, President Trump hailed the Chinese leader's three-day visit as a success. "We've had a tremendous visit from two spectacular people," and, "we've made great strides, very positive for both countries," he said.
The US President remarked that American farmers would be "very happy," though he did not provide details regarding new Chinese commitments to purchase agricultural products.
For his part, President Xi said US-China relations should aim for a state of strategic stability founded on respect, fairness, and reciprocity.
If the two countries recognize and respect their differences, deepen mutual understanding and learn from each other, seek the biggest common denominator, expand the list of areas for cooperation, and properly manage differences, China-US relations will enjoy steady and sustained growth, Xi said.
