Prime Minister Hung’s visit comes at a time when Laos is implementing the direction set out at the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, fine-tuning its leadership apparatus for the 2026–2031 tenure, pushing reforms, stabilizing its macro-economy, and improving its investment and business environment.

The visit conveys a message of Vietnam's companionship, support, and solidarity with Laos in ensuring stability and development. The political trust nurtured through high-level meetings and Intergovernmental Committee sessions provides momentum for bilateral relations.

Defense and security, economic, trade, and investment cooperation are being promoted to enhance strategic connectivity. Both countries are focused on linking transport, logistics, energy, and telecom infrastructure to help Laos leverage its connectivity role and expand development space for businesses from both nations.

Vietnam and Laos are determined to raise bilateral trade from 1.3 billion USD to 5 billion USD, and eventually 10 billion USD. But that will require a stronger commitment to removing barriers and creating better conditions for investment and businesses.

PM Hung’s visit to Laos is also an opportunity to exchange views on regional and global issues of shared concern. Consensus and coordination between Vietnam and Laos at multilateral forums—such as ASEAN, the United Nations, and Mekong sub-regional cooperation frameworks—play a vital role in strengthening intra-regional solidarity, ensuring a common voice, and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for the entire region.
