At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to continue strengthening political trust and comprehensively developing the bilateral relationship. General Secretary and President Lam proposed that both sides effectively implement the Action Program for the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2025–2030 period. They agreed to make defense and security cooperation substantive and effective, and to explore the establishment of hotlines to address transnational crime issues.
Acknowledging the highly complementary nature of their economies, the two sides agreed to expand economic and trade cooperation and to effectively leverage the free trade agreements to which both are parties. They include the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Area (AANZFTA).
Prime Minister Luxon said New Zealand would continue to strongly promote trade and investment cooperation for businesses from both countries to pursue investment opportunities. Applauding the practical and effective support from the New Zealand Government, the Vietnamese top leader expressed a desire for continued partnership in building a green, low-emission, and climate-resilient agricultural sector that ensures food security.
The two sides reiterated their commitment to share experiences in building a digital government and an ecosystem that fosters scientific and technological development. They agreed to make education, tourism, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges key drivers of their bilateral relationship.
The two leaders pledged to strengthen cooperation on regional and global issues of mutual concern within multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations. They underlined the importance of upholding international law in the region and resolving disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, especially the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
