The proposals were presented by Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung at the 37th APEC Ministerial Meeting, held online on Tuesday.

In his remarks, Minister Le Hoai Trung outlined three priorities.

First, he called for a more innovative and productive Asia-Pacific through the responsible and effective application of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, stronger research and development, regional innovation networks, and future-ready human resources.

Second, he proposed building an open and connected Asia Pacific region by facilitating trade in goods and services, addressing supply chain bottlenecks, strengthening institutional, infrastructure and digital connectivity, and promoting people-to-people exchanges.

Third, he stressed the importance of a resilient and dynamic Asia-Pacific, with greater cooperation in food and energy security, sustainable resource management and preparedness for external shocks and emerging risks. Closer policy coordination, he said, would help sustain regional growth.

The annual meeting is APEC's highest-level ministerial gathering. It reviewed regional economic cooperation over the past year and discussed preparations for the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Shenzhen, China.

Discussions focused on building an Asia-Pacific community and strengthening economic integration to drive regional growth.
