The visit, from August 12 to 14, is made at the invitation of New Zealand Governor-General Cindy Kiro.
It is Mr. To Lam’s first visit to New Zealand in his current position and the first State visit to New Zealand by a Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President.
The visit is expected to strengthen political trust and deepen bilateral cooperation, with a focus on making the partnership more substantive, effective and results-oriented.
The two sides are expected to explore new opportunities for cooperation and further translate their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into concrete outcomes that benefit both countries.
Speaking to VOV, Vietnamese Ambassador to New Zealand Phan Minh Giang said the visit demonstrates Vietnam’s high priority for its relationship with New Zealand, an important and effective Comprehensive Strategic Partner in the region.
Mr. Giang said: "Party General Secretary and President To Lam's State visit to New Zealand is expected to generate fresh momentum for elevating the Vietnam-New Zealand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the new era, in line with the two countries’ potential and standing. It is also expected to deliver more tangible benefits for their people and businesses, support each country’s development goals, and contribute positively to peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and the world."
