The visits opened a new phase of deeper, more effective and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the two South Asian nations.

Accompanying the Vietnamese leader on the trip, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said both sides had agreed on important new directions for cooperation in line with the development needs of each country.

“With India, the two sides identified science and technology as a new pillar of cooperation. In the areas of economy, trade and investment, specific measures were agreed upon to boost collaboration with the participation of businesses as well as coordination among ministries, sectors and localities of both countries,” he said.

“Regarding Sri Lanka, the two countries agreed to increase bilateral trade fivefold in the coming years, while Vietnamese businesses will further expand access to the Sri Lankan market,” the foreign minister added.

With substantive outcomes, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s State visits to India and Sri Lanka marked an important political milestone, creating new momentum and opening a new stage in Vietnam’s relations with the two countries.

The visits further strengthened political trust and expanded Vietnam's cooperation with these two countries in a broader, deeper, more effective and more substantive manner.
