(VOVworld) – Han Van Luan is a dynamic and enthusiastic Secretary of My Nghiep quarter’s Youth Union in Phuoc Dan town, Ninh Thuan province. Luan is not only an outstanding youth leader but also a role model in doing business. He owns a well-known Cham brocade weaving factory in Ninh Thuan province.

Born into a family with a tradition of weaving brocade for generations, Han Van Luan absorbed the essence of the craft from his grandmother and mother when he was small. He is able to produce brocade cloth of various patterns and colors as beautiful as those made by his grandmother and mother. Not happy with the traditional motifs, Luan studied and tried out more modern brocade patterns to meet market demand. In the face of fierce competition, he has continued to diversify his products, expand his production, and seek for new markets. His brocade products are sold in Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, the Central Highland provinces, and Ho Chi Minh city.

Luan elaborates: "I want to preserve the traditional craft and show the younger generation that we can get rich by doing traditional craft. I’m trying to generate more jobs to give less-than-well-behaved youngsters opportunities to work, become good citizens, and restore the traditional craft."

For 10 years, Luan has struggled to maintain and expand his factory. When he acquired sufficient capital, he bought a weaving machine to make larger brocade cloth. Today, Luan has 8 weaving machines that are 6.7 times as productive as traditional looms. Luan now earns a profit of over 100 million Dong per year. His employees have stable incomes. Tho Thanh Xuan Tran is a young Cham ethnic man. "I’m a recent graduate. Luan hired me and instructs me in every detail of the work. I’ve learned a job which helps to preserve the traditional craft and gives me a stable income."

As a Youth Union leader, Luan has sought to rally young people through Youth Union meetings and cultural and sports activities. He has also organized training classes to teach young people to operate weaving machines. He is active in charitable activities and raising funds for social programs to build a communal house and pave roads. Ngo Le Xuan An, Secretary of the Phuoc Dan town Youth Union says: "Han Van Luan is busy with his personal work. But he always finds time to get involved in social work and Youth Union’s activities. Any activity he organizes is successful. The province has recognized him as a role model in doing business and he has been awarded the certificate of merit of the Youth Union’s Central Committee."

Cham people in My Nghiep appreciate Luan’s active role in Youth Union activities, encouraging local people to abide by the Party and State policies, and supporting people in their daily life and work. Luan has received many certificates of merit for his contributions to society.
