Addressing the event, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung said Politburo Resolution No. 57 identifies the development of science and technology, innovation, and national digital transformation as a top strategic breakthrough and a key driver of modern production, improved economic relations and more effective national governance.
In such a context, he said, innovation should not be viewed simply as an area requiring attention and support, but as a driving force that must be strongly activated across the entire economy and society. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, innovation should help the economy boost productivity, improve the efficiency of capital and resource use, and create new products, services, industries and markets.
For the State, innovation should help modernize governance, improve the quality of public services and address development challenges more effectively. For businesses, innovation should facilitate the adoption and upgrading of technologies, improve quality, reduce costs, expand markets and enable deeper participation in global value chains. For people, the ultimate benefits of innovation should be better jobs, higher incomes, improved products and services, and a better quality of life.
At the event, participants launched National Innovation Day 2026, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts, connectivity and action, and promoting a culture of innovation in government agencies, businesses, research institutes, universities and the wider community.
The Ministry of Science and Technology also announced the 2026 Provincial Innovation Index, or PII, which provides a basis for localities to develop and implement measures to improve their innovation performance.
The 10 leading localities in the 2026 PII rankings are Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Hue, Da Nang, Thai Nguyen, Tay Ninh and Hung Yen.
As part of the event, organizers set up an exhibition and networking area featuring 150 domestic and international booths showcasing technologies, products, solutions and innovative models developed by businesses, research institutes, universities, support organizations and financial institutions.
The event also features hands-on activities, technology supply-and-demand connections, meetings between businesses, scientists and investors, and opportunities to promote cooperation.
