In a private talk with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, UNDP head Achim Steiner congratulated Vietnam on continuing to make gains in human development, on contributing to international efforts to address global challenges, and on implementing the 2030 agenda on sustainable development.

These achievements are due to appropriate policies and considerable effort on the part of the Party and State to promote economic recovery, ensure post-pandemic social security, and facilitate the Vietnamese people’s development.

The UNDP's human development report was first released in 1990 and is published every two years, with contributions by experts from UN agencies, member countries, and non-governmental organizations. The HDI is considered an important measure of the comprehensive development of countries and is widely used by researchers and policymakers.
