Mr. Kenji, Editor-in-Chief of News & Chips and a technology journalist, who has closely followed Japan’s and the global semiconductor industries for many years, says the semiconductor industry encompasses a wide range of stages, from chip design and fabrication to packaging and testing. Given its current conditions, Vietnam should initially focus on areas where it has the potential to build competitive strengths, particularly manufacturing and chip packaging.
He noted that Vietnam has favorable conditions for developing semiconductor manufacturing, including a production environment requiring high standards of cleanliness.
The Japanese expert recommended that Vietnam develop a phased roadmap, making manufacturing and packaging priorities while simultaneously building capabilities in chip design, testing, semiconductor materials and equipment. This approach could help Vietnam gradually strengthen its position in the global semiconductor supply chain.
