Apartment rooftops: a new frontier for solar power amid rapid urbanization

[VOVWORLD] - As Vietnam’s cities expand and demand for electricity continues to grow, apartment rooftops are emerging as an underused space for solar power generation. Rooftop solar could help apartment buildings meet part of their electricity needs, particularly in common areas, while reducing energy costs and emissions. Yet its wider adoption faces legal, technical and management challenges.

[VOVWORLD] - 2026 marks the first year of the 5-year socio-economic development plan until 2030, which targets high growth and requires an ever-increasing electricity supply. With demand surging, particularly during heatwaves, efficient and cost-effective energy use has become a top priority. Rooftop solar power (RSP) is emerging as a way out to strengthen national energy security.

(VOVWORLD) - As Vietnam moves rapidly toward a cleaner and more resilient energy system, the expansion of offshore wind, onshore wind, and solar power is placing unprecedented demands on the national grid. With nearly 1,000 employees in Vietnam and three decades of experience in high-voltage power technologies, Swedish company Hitachi Energy says it is ready to join these efforts. In a recent interview with VOV, Mr. Chandan Singh, Country Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Vietnam, talked about his company’s technical solutions and long-term commitment to building a smart, future-ready grid.
