(VOVworld) - The Vietnam Fisheries Association has issued a denunciation of China’s illegal ban on fishing in the East Sea. In its protest, the association said the illegal seasonal ban by the Chinese has been in place for many years, interfering with the activities of Vietnamese fishermen, violating Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty over the two archipelagoes of Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel), and Vietnam’s jurisdiction over the waters under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

US naval ship approaches Fiery Cross Reef in East Sea

(VOVworld)- The US Navy on Tuesday sent the destroyer the USS William P. Lawrence to the 12 nautical mile zone near Fiery Cross Reef in Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago. China is currently conducting land reclamation and illegal construction on the Reef.

ASEAN SOMs take place in Laos

(VOVworld) – ASEAN’s Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM), ASEAN-China, Japan, ROK (10+3) SOM, the East Asia Summit (EAS) SOM were held in Luang Prabang, Laos, on May 6 and 7. The Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung attended all meetings. At the ASEAN SOM, member countries pledged to practically implement the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 to realize the goal of comprehensive connectivity towards the people.
