(VOVworld) – The Mong live mainly in high mountain regions which have harsh weather conditions. They have some special cultivation methods to cope with the difficult terrain. VOV looks at the terraced field cultivation of the Mong.

(VOVworld) – The Mong are one of the most populous ethnic groups in Vietnam. They live mostly in the mountains, 1,000 meters above sea level, in the northern region, in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An province, and in the central highlands. The Mong are part of the unity of the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

(VOVworld) – When the seasonal winds blow and peach and apricot trees bloom in the forests, the central highlanders welcome a season of festival, which lasts from the end of last year to the New Year. The Ede Bih, a branch of the Ede ethnic group, who live in Trap hamlet, Krong Ana district, Dac Lac province, celebrate the spring festival by playing gongs. The sets of Jho gongs are played only by women.

(VOVworld) – The Ede have their own perceptions of the life cycle. An Ede person has to experience various rites during his or her lifetime to report on their development to the gods.

(VOVworld) –Ede sculpture is exemplified in houses, graves, and pillars. The designs include familiar images of life like the sun, flowers, leaves and animals.

(VOVworld) – The Ede epic, a true product of the farming civilization, is a long story in verses and rhythm. Most famous Ede epics are Dam San and Xinh Nha.

(VOVworld) – Unlike other ethnic groups in Phu Yen province like the Cham and the Bana, the Ede ethnic people have retained their traditional weaving craft. In addition to their traditional long houses, papooses and hunting tools, weaving looms are indispensible in their lives.

(VOVworld) – Wherever they live, the Ede people are aware of preserving their traditional culture. VOV’s Lan Anh talks to two of them.

(VOVworld) – The long house, which accommodates several generations of a clan, typifies the Ede ethnic group’s matriarchy. Whenever a girl living in a house gets married, the house is lengthened by one compartment. There’s a saying that compares the house to the distance the sound of a gong travels because when a gong is struck at one end of the house, its sound is barely heard at the other end.
