Iran's permanent ambassador to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani commented on Tuesday in a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the UN Security Council, in which he sharply criticized Israel for what Tehran described as a "public declaration" regarding the incident in which Ismail Haniyeh, one of the leaders of the Hamas movement, was killed in Iran in July. In the letter, Ambassador Iravani called this an act deserving of condemnation.

On Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz publicly acknowledged for the first time that Israel was behind the incident during a ceremony honoring Israeli military personnel.
