(VOVWORLD) - Party General Secretary To Lam and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation departed Hanoi on Wednesday to attend the opening session of the Board of Peace for Gaza, scheduled for February 20 in Washington, D.C., at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, the Board’s Founding Chair.

The Peace Plan and the Board of Peace for Gaza, proposed by President Trump, are regarded as the most viable initiative since the outbreak of the conflict in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, aiming to facilitate dialogue and negotiations among relevant parties toward ending hostilities and achieving a sustainable peace in the region.
To date, most invited countries have confirmed their participation, including those that signed the Charter of the Board of Peace in Davos, Switzerland, demonstrating their political support and commitment. However, discussions remain at an exploratory stage, with no specific pledges of contribution or participation announced.
Vietnam’s invitation to join the Board of Peace for Gaza reflects the international community’s recognition of and high regard for the country’s role in peacekeeping and international cooperation.
Party General Secretary To Lam’s working visit to the United States is expected to contribute to promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development, while reinforcing confidence in cooperative international solutions.
