General Secretary Lam met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday as part of his trip to Washington D.C. to attend the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace.
Regarding economic and trade issues, the Party chief expressed his desire for both sides to continue frank and substantive dialogue on outstanding issues in a spirit of balance and harmony of interests, in accordance with the conditions and legitimate interests of each side, for the benefit of businesses and people of both countries.
President Trump reaffirmed the United States' commitment to supporting a "strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous" Vietnam. He applauded General Secretary Lam's direct attendance at the inaugural meeting of the Gaza Board of Peace, calling it a testament to Vietnam's growing role and position in the international arena, as well as its strong commitment to global peace, stability, and cooperation.
President Trump praised Vietnam's efforts in balancing the bilateral trade balance and the valuable contracts signed during the General Secretary’s trip. He responded positively to Vietnam's proposals on economic and scientific-technological cooperation, saying that he will instruct relevant agencies to soon remove Vietnam from the Strategic Export Control List (D1–D3). The President said the US considers Vietnam an important partner in the region and praised Vietnam’s growing role and voice at regional and multilateral forums.
On this occasion, General Secretary Lam invited President Trump and his wife to visit Vietnam again soon. President Trump accepted the invitation with pleasure and said that he will arrange a visit in the near future.
