President: Vietnam–EU relations develop substantively, comprehensively

(VOVWORLD) - State President Luong Cuong hosted an official welcome ceremony on Thursday for the President of the European Council, António Costa, who is on an official visit to Vietnam on Wednesday and Thursday at the President's invitation. Following the ceremony, the two leaders held a private meeting before leading high-level delegations from Vietnam and the European Union (EU) into official talks.

During the talks, President Luong Cuong noted that President Costa’s visit takes place shortly after Vietnam successfully concluded the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He stated that the visit reflects a high level of political trust and provides a foundation for further advancing Vietnam–EU relations after 35 years of diplomatic ties (1990–2025).

The State President affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to the role of the EU as a leading partner in Vietnam’s foreign policy. He emphasized that both parties share a commitment to promoting multilateralism and upholding the rule of law to pursue peace, stability, and development globally and regionally.

The Vietnamese President said: “Vietnam–EU relations are developing positively, substantively, and comprehensively. Political trust continues to be strengthened with the EU and its member states. Economic, trade, and investment cooperation remains the main driving force, while cooperation in science, technology, and innovation has emerged as a new strategic pillar.”

President of the European Council António Costa affirmed that the EU and Vietnam are like-minded partners in upholding multilateralism, a rules-based international order, and free trade.

He expressed confidence that cooperation between the two sides would achieve even greater results in the years ahead and contribute to global peace and prosperity.
