Syria crisis: Countries pledge support for unity, territorial integrity

(VOVWORLD) -After the central government in Syria was overthrown, regional countries have called for unity, territorial integrity and the restoration of stability in the Arab country.
In an official announcement released on Sunday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for coordinated efforts to maintain Syria's national unity and prevent this country from falling into chaos and division. Riyadh pledged to provide all possible support to help Syria achieve security and stability.
From Cairo, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called for national consensus and reconstruction of Syria. In a statement, the Ministry urged all relevant parties in Syria to unify goals and priorities, launch a comprehensive political process as the foundation for a new phase of consensus and peace. Cairo pledged to make efforts with regional and global partners to help Syria rebuild the country and repatriate refugees.
From a forum in Doha, Qatar, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Ankara supports the people as well as the unity and territorial integrity of Syria. He emphasized the need for regional and global stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition of power in neighboring Syria.
Russia's TASS news agency on Sunday quoted a source from the Kremlin as saying that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is now in Moscow and has been granted refugee status by Russia. According to TASS, diplomatic sources from two Arab countries revealed that the Syrian armed opposition has committed to ensuring the safety of diplomatic missions in Damascus.
