(VOVWORLD) - General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee To Lam was re-elected as Party General Secretary for the 2026-2031 term at the first session of the 14th Party Central Committee on Friday morning.

The session, which marked the beginning of the new term of the Party Central Committee, was convened to decide a number of particularly important issues. Mr. To Lam, the convener of the meeting, delivered the opening speech and, on behalf of the meeting’s presidium, chaired the session.
In strict compliance with the Party Statute, working regulations, and electoral rules, and upholding a strong spirit of unity, responsibility, and democratic centralism, the first session of the 14th Party Central Committee completed several key tasks. These included electing the Politburo, the General Secretary, and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat; hearing a report on plans for key Party and State leadership positions and giving opinions on personnel for the post of Permanent Member of the Secretariat; and electing the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission and Head of the Inspection Commission.
The 14th Party Central Committee unanimously elected Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the 13th Party Central Committee, as General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee.
General Secretary To Lam was born on July 10, 1957, in Hung Yen province. He holds the titles of Professor and Doctor of Law.
He has served as a member of the Politburo in the 12th, 13th, and 14th terms; a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th through 14th terms; Head of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Anti-Negativity; and a deputy to the 14th and 15th National Assemblies.
On May 22, 2024, at the 7th session of the 15th National Assembly, he was elected President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Since being elected General Secretary by the 13th Party Central Committee in August 2024, Mr. To Lam has left a lasting mark on Party leadership and on the strategic direction of national development.
