The meeting marked the first official talks between Rodríguez and Dogu since the US diplomat arrived in Caracas last weekend to assume her post as head of the US diplomatic mission.

On the same day, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil announced that Caracas and Washington will launch a joint work program designed to address differences through diplomatic dialogue grounded in respect for international law.

Also on Monday, former Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia was appointed Venezuela’s diplomatic representative to the US.

Minister Gil said the move signals the start of a period of “comprehensive review” of bilateral cooperation channels in the coming months. Venezuela aims to establish a “constructive agenda for peace and mutual respect” to steer relations in a direction that benefits the two peoples, he said.
