The country will also serve as the Council President in January, 2020, and April, 2021.

“As the UNSC President in January, Vietnam will give top priority to fixing emerging problems, safeguarding global peace and security, improving awareness of the UN Charter and the rule of law, and promoting cooperation between ASEAN and the UN. ASEAN plays an increasingly important role in sustaining peace and security in the region and the world,”   Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the UN, told VOV.

Mr. Quy said that it’s quite difficult to address challenges given a fast-evolving and unpredictable world as well as disagreement, even a conflict of interest, among UNSC members. Vietnam will try to preserve world peace and security while maintaining a good relationship with all other Council members, he noted.
