Vietnam reduces HIV/AIDS infection

(VOVworld)- Vietnam has reduced HIV infection in the community to below 0.3 percent, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, who is also Chairman of the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Control, said at a meeting in Da Nang yesterday. He told the international organisations that are coordinating the National Programme on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control and that apart from technical activities, Vietnam’s HIV/AIDS prevention services have greatly expanded, and many legal policies have been adopted. He said Vietnam will need 1.3 billion USD to fight HIV/AIDS in the 2013–2020 period and asked donors to finalise their decision on future funding for Vietnam. He said Vietnam pledges to increase investment through the National Target Programme on HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, and mobilise social resources like public-private partnerships and healthcare insurance to maintain outcomes.
