A spokesperson for the organizing board, Nguyen Thi Yen Chau, said many people know about the hardship of life in the northwestern provinces, especially during the cold winters. In piercing cold, barefoot children in very thin clothes often have to travel a long way to school or to do housework. Their homes are poorly furnished, and lack warm bedding. The “warm blankets” program aims to help the children by warming them in the winter, and nurturing their dreams of a brighter future. Ms. Chau said: "I have thought a lot about things we should do to help the children. I work in the garment and textile sector and I came up with the idea of a large blanket store. We’ll help other organizations to deliver blankets to the localities they want to help. I love photography and I’ll ask other photographers to get involved."

At the second “Warm blankets” exhibition, 36 photos depicted impressive images of Hanoi through its 4 seasons. Some of the photos were sold prior to the exhibition. All photos and a collection of 12 postcards about Hanoi were also sold. Tran Thi Hien is an exhibition staff member. "After three days, we have collected a lot of donations. We can buy 2,500 blankets with the proceeds. We will distribute the blankets to children in Lao Cai and Dien Bien provinces."
The “Warm blankets” program is organized in summer and autumn every year. Last year, more than 2,000 blankets were given to children in Lao Cai, Dien Bien, and Lai Chau provinces. The organizers aim to collect 5,000 blankets this year.
