The traditional Vietnamese wedding is one of the most important ceremonies in Vietnamese culture with influences from Confucian and Buddhist ideologies. It is a significant day not only for the couple involved but also for their entire families. So, it usually includes quite a few formal ritual observances.

This week is a festive one for Vietnamese teachers because November 20th has long been a special day for Vietnamese students to show their respect and gratitude to their teachers. We observe November 20th as Vietnam Teachers’ Day.

(VOVworld) - This week we got a Halloween postcard from Robert Krolikowski of New York, the US. The black cat and orange jack-o-lantern are more funny than scary. Although Halloween is more of a typically Western tradition, in recent years, many Vietnamese also enjoy Halloween parties.

(VOVworld) - Hanoi is in the middle of autumn and the daytime temperature ranges from 25 to 30 DC. The weather forecast center says a cold spell is coming later this week, bringing the temperature down to around 20 DC. I love this weather. It’s pleasantly warm and humidity is moderate.

A: Vietnam’s struggle for national independence in the 20th century was associated with General Vo Nguyen Giap, Commander-in-chief of the Vietnam People’s Army. General Giap made many key decisions which changed the balance on the battlefield, leading to the resounding Dien Bien Phu victory.

A: Last week marked a milestone in VOV’s history and the VOV English Section’s history as well. On October 1st, we officially launched our 24/7 English channel which will broadcast daily on 104 FM to foreign listeners, overseas Vietnamese, English-speaking Vietnamese, and the foreign community in Vietnam.

(VOVworld) - We had some interesting talks with the winners about their passion for shortwave radio and what they think about VOV. During their stay in Hanoi, the three listeners visited historical and cultural sites in Hanoi, Ha Long bay, a UNESCO recognized world natural heritage site in Quang Ninh province, and Trang An landscape complex, a UNESCO recognized world cultural and natural heritage site in Ninh Binh province.
