A joint statement released by the UK and Australia said the treaty would enable cooperation on the SSN-Aukus submarine’s design, build, operation, sustainment, and disposal, as well as workforce, infrastructure and regulatory systems. It will also support port visits and the rotational presence of a UK Astute-class submarine at a naval base near Perth on Australia’s west coast.

According to the statement, this treaty represents a 50-year commitment to continued bilateral defense cooperation between the UK and Australia under Pillar I of AUKUS, and is built on the solid foundation of the existing trilateral AUKUS partnership.
