The "Son La Coffee" brand, protected by a Geographical Indication, has successfully penetrated the European Union, the US, Canada, China, and other demanding markets. Son La coffee, whose annual earnings of 112 million USD accounts for nearly half of the province's total export value, stands at a pivotal transition from "raw exports" to "high-value supply chains".
The province has outlined a strategic roadmap for navigating stricter technical barriers and growing consumer demand for green products. By 2030, Son La aims to earn 186 million USD with its coffee exports, increase to 80% the proportion of coffee cultivation areas with sustainability certifications and growing-area codes, expand their markets, and solidify their coffee’s position in the international market.
“We’re charting a strategic path for Son La Arabica that focuses on creating products with distinct regional characteristics, establishing cultivation zones for specialty coffee, and aiming for higher economic value. We’re moving toward specialty coffee production and making sure that post-processing yields higher-quality products. We’ll make it easier for coffee export enterprises and organizations to select suitable locations and target markets,” said Vice Chairman of the Son La provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Cong.
During the conference, Son La cooperatives signed multiple memoranda of understanding with distribution and import-export partners.
