Chairing a meeting with the Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant agencies on mechanisms for operating and sharing laboratory facilities, the Deputy Prime Minister called for a fundamental change in the way labs are invested and managed.
Instead of fragmented investment, resources should be concentrated toward the development of national labs. Eight key labs will initially be prioritized, with the aim of reaching regional and international standards, particularly in strategic fields.
Mr. Dung said: "The Ministry of Science and Technology, in coordination with relevant ministries, agencies and localities, needs to urgently review and develop a database on the capacity of laboratories, research centers and testing facilities nationwide. We also need financial mechanisms covering the entire life cycle of equipment, greater autonomy linked to accountability and performance, and an open mechanism allowing research institutes, universities, scientists and businesses to access and share research infrastructure conveniently, transparently and effectively."
