The Government approved the establishment of the 5,300-hectare Hai Phong Specialized Economic Zone, which will focus on science and technology-driven industries and services, with priority given to artificial intelligence, robotics, big data, chemicals, and research and development.
The Prime Minister also approved the master plan for the Southern Hai Phong Coastal Economic Zone through 2050. The 20,000-hectare zone will be an integrated hub combining industrial parks, urban areas, services, seaports, and logistics infrastructure.
The Hai Phong Free Trade Zone is the first free trade zone in Vietnam to begin operations under a new framework that features innovative policies and institutions designed to attract high quality investment, advanced technology, and highly skilled workers from around the world.
“Hai Phong needs to deepen cooperation with neighboring localities in transport, logistics, energy, workforce development, and supply chains," said Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau.
"Instead of competing to attract relocated projects, we should work together to build an integrated economic ecosystem that can compete with the region's leading economic hubs. The Government remains committed to improving the legal framework, safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of investors, maintaining a stable policy environment, and promptly addressing any problems that arise during implementation,” he added.
At the ceremony, Hai Phong authorities awarded 13 investment registration certificates and signed two memoranda of understanding with businesses. The agreements represent a total registered and committed investment of 3.2 billion USD.
