The match finished 1-1 after extra time with Luke Shaw and Leonardo Bonucci scoring for England and Italy respectively.

The winner was determined by a penalty-kick shootout after extra time that kept the score even at 1. Italy won the shootout 3-2 after England's final shot was blocked.

Italy have won two European Championships in 1968 and 2020 and appeared in two finals of the tournament in 2000 and 2012.
