At a working session with Ca Mau provincial leaders, Senior Colonel Tinh urged relevant units to focus forces and equipment and continue implementing the directives on combating IUU fishing in a resolute and effective manner. He called for strict adherence to inspection and control procedures and the use of software to manage and monitor fishing vessels. Authorities should closely monitor people and vessels entering and leaving sea ports and prevent vessels without adequate procedures and documents from going to the sea.
Mr. Tinh called for a review of outstanding issues and difficulties in IUU fishing prevention and closer coordination among agencies in sharing data. Public awareness campaigns should be strengthened, focusing on vessel owners and captains, to ensure that all fishermen understand the basic legal regulations on combating IUU fishing, he said.
