Ushakov said he did not expect the first trilateral meeting after the pause to produce significant results, describing it as a “trial run” and stressing that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine “still needs work.”
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow was prepared to resume trilateral contacts involving Russia, the US, and Ukraine. He said the talks should focus on security guarantees for both Russia and Ukraine following a final peace agreement, rather than merely securing a temporary halt to combat operations for a short period. Putin also stressed that the issue must be considered within the broader framework of European security.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv was ready to advance ceasefire initiatives and continue dialogue in pursuit of a peaceful settlement. But he reiterated that Ukraine would not accept conditions requiring it to adopt neutral status or limit the size of its military. The territorial issue, he added, could only be resolved at the highest level of leadership.
