At the working session, Party chief To Lam highly appreciated the great efforts made by relevant ministries, sectors, and localities to keep the project on schedule in which the runway and route No. 1 have been completed and meet the technical requirements for trial flights, while the terminal has reached 60% of its contractual value and is expected to be basically completed before December 19 this year.

“Long Thanh International Airport must be built and operated with a pioneering spirit, overcoming challenges and differences, setting a new model for modern, sustainable, and smart aviation infrastructure. The goal is to make Long Thanh one of the most attractive aviation destinations in Southeast Asia on par with, and even surpassing, the region’s leading airports,” according to Mr To Lam.

He called for strong coordination among ministries, agencies, and investors to develop a comprehensive set of criteria for assessing the airport’s international competitiveness, focusing on service quality and passenger experience, operational productivity and efficiency, and connectivity and hub capabilities within the regional aviation network.

As of now, many key components of the Long Thanh International Airport project have been completed, including connecting roads, Runway 1, and the Phase 1 perimeter fence.

Calibration and flight tests were carried out from September 26 to October 29, 2025.

According to a study by the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG), once the airport reaches its designed capacity of 25 million passengers per year, it is expected to directly generate about 22,000 jobs for businesses operating at the airport, contributing 3.7 billion USD annually to the national GDP.
