(VOVworld) - The US and Russia made "progress" in discussions designed to avoid accidents between them in the increasingly crowded air space over Syria, the Pentagon and Moscow said, and more talks are planned. Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement after the 90-minute video conference that the discussions were professional and focused narrowly on the implementation of specific safety procedures". Defense officials of the two countries focused on "steps that can be taken" by Russian and US-led coalition aircraft "to promote safe flight operations over Syria."

The conference was held following the incident in which Russian planes flew near a US drone, and the US military had to reroute some flights to avoid any close calls.
