The exhibition titled "The Prison Break of 1943" is underway at the Son La Prison built in 1908 by French colonialists, now a special national relic site, to commemorate the 79th anniversary of Vietnam's War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27).
The exhibition of 100 photographs and historical documents is divided into three parts. The first part features the French presence in Son La; and the second and third parts are about the Son La Prison's Party Cell and how it helped 4 revolutionaries escape in 1943.
The 4 revolutionaries were Nguyen Luong Bang, Luu Duc Hieu, Nguyen Van Tran, and Tran Dang Ninh. Under the party cell's leadership, they staged a prison break and returned to their comrades outside to prepare for the 1945 August Revolution.
Tran Tuan Quang is a relative of revolutionary Tran Dang Ninh. He said: "We're deeply moved by the exhibition. It reminds us that the journey to liberate and safeguard the nation has been a long and arduous one. Many sacrificed their lives and were imprisoned here 83 years ago. It was thanks to them that our country can now develop."
