Registered FDI exceeded 8 billion USD, 20% of the total FDI registered in Vietnam during the period.
Thai Nguyen overtook Ho Chi Minh City to become Vietnam's leading destination for FDI in the first eight months of 2026. While the gap in total FDI between the two localities was relatively small, they showed different trends. Ho Chi Minh City led in number of projects, while Thai Nguyen led in scale of investment.
The province’s result was due in large part to a number of investment promotion missions to Taiwan (China), Japan, and major economic centers in China, including Suzhou, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Macau. Thai Nguyen maintained its “Morning Tea with Entrepreneurs” program, a direct dialogue channel between provincial authorities and the business community that has become a distinctive feature of the province's economic management.
Building on the results, Thai Nguyen plans to launch a large-scale investment promotion program in 2027 and shift from developing standalone projects to developing a high-tech ecosystem of coordinated projects, and from competing on incentives to competing on infrastructure, human resources, governance quality, and the speed of investor services.
The province aims to become a center for electronics, semiconductor, and innovation industries in Vietnam's northern region, a high-tech growth hub, a center for workforce training, and a key link in regional supply chains.
In terms of target markets, the province plans to expand investment promotion beyond traditional partners like South Korea, Japan, and China to the US, the European Union, Singapore, Taiwan (China), India, and Australia.
